November 2024

Thank a Farmer!

Is it really November, already? In the United States, November is known for Thanksgiving. This month we will reflect and remember all the things to be thankful for in our lives.

This November let's reflect on and be thankful for agriculture. Agriculture is connected to our everyday lives even if we do not realize it. It is the food, fuel, and fiber we use every day!

Fall in Michigan doesn't just mean we will see the leaves changing colors, you may also see a lot of farm equipment on the roads and in the fields. That is because the fall brings harvest for many of our commodities in Michigan. Our farmers work extra-long hours throughout the fall months to harvest crops so that we can have the food, fuel, and fiber we need! This year let's be thankful for our farmers.

Did you know that many of our favorite foods we eat on Thanksgiving can be grown right here in Michigan? Michigan is one of the most diverse agricultural states in our country. That means we produce many different commodities. From the turkey, to potatoes, corn, beans, and even the pumpkin pie these are all things that could have been produced right here in Michigan.

Let's focus this month on being thankful for all the ways agriculture impacts our lives. Maybe even find a farmer and tell them Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving!
